by John Debnam Stroke Gallery

Understandably many players when learning tennis are very aphrehensive to go to or be at the net in doubles. The volley in real technique terms is the simplest of many of the other strokes needed in doubles.

The movement of the racket is regarded as a short swing, but the key is the grip, if you really want a good volley then you need the continental grip

This grip gives you the ability to hit either a forehand or backhand volley without a grip change. This is vital on the volley as when you are nearer to the net you have less time for decision making.

So watch the video above- get the grip right and this will also helo with your serve- your drop shot- and other shots involving feel.
