Even if you aren’t very confident in your volleys, you still want to try and poach often enough so that your opponent has to worry about you.

Your opponent should realize that if they leave a ball float down the middle of the court, you will poach and cut it off.

Even if you miss a few volleys, it will give your opponent something else to think about.
