The first in a series of articles about "things to do and see in Tenerife"
Its not all sun, sea and sand, there are many other things to do on the island, culture, good food and those tucked away places you never know existed.
I will be giving you an insight into the "other side" of Tenerife - starting with some culture for you, either as a visitor or resident here:

Diagrammatically speaking, the building is composed of a succession of platforms, overshadowed by the enormous curved volume of the Main Hall. This is the heart of the building, both formally and structurally. The 50 m high overhanging roof gives the impression of animal-like movement and flexibility. The offices and rooms of the Auditorio, and the annexed buildings located beneath the platforms that surround the building, ensure that this multi-purpose centre can accommodate a considerably varied cultural offer.

The architect was Santiago Calatrava a leading figure in the final quarter of the twentieth century for his imaginative contributions to the field of civil architecture Calatrava was born in Benimanet (Valencia), on 28 July 1951.

In 1968, he began studying Fine Art and, the following year, Architecture at the recently opened Escuela de Valencia. He then moved to Zurich (Switzerland), where he earned a doctorate in 1981 as a civil engineer. That same year, he opened his first studio in Zurich and began his prolific activity throughout Europe. His work includes: the facades for the Ernsting Warehouse (Coesfeld, Germany, 1983-1985); Stadelhofen Station (Zurich, 1983-1990); Bach de Roda bridge (Barcelona, 1985-1987); the Monjuic Telecommunications tower (1989-1992), erected for the 1992 Olympic Games

You will find the Auditorio in Santa Cruz as you come off the motorway from the south:
