Firsr of all if you do not know what FYB is,it stands for Fuzzy Yellow Balls, which is a tennis site based in the US of A.
They have all sorts of great free videos of the stars, but also videos showing you in great detail how to hit the different strokes in the game.
Now there are alot of sites out there, but this one is REALLY good, and if you have'nt seen it then click any of the links I have put in and go view. Also they have a series of videos that you have to pay extra for and this is up to you to decide.
But at the moment they are running a series of 3 free videos about "YOU" and how you can become your own tennis doctor.Briefly what that means is,when you game starts falling to pieces with previous practice and knowing about your game, you can put it back together again by yourself.
Now as you who out there know me well,I am not the type who goes on about what I have achieved in my tennis life - but I want to share a story with you.
Its related to the video above, and when I watched it I sent a comment to the site expressing my views - which were very positive about what the video is about - and its about becoming "The Doctor" And quess what they were so impressed with my comment that at minute 2.00 you can see it!.
But this is the story, and this is based on the second video in the series which follows on after this - After many years of tennis in the UK I was a pretty good doubles player with a good serve and best of all the volley - but when you have played for years on grass you cannot help but develop a good volley. So then I moved to Spain, and in the early years I won the 35 and 45 singles age group events in Tenerife and played a few times in the Spanish National events.
And it was here I discovered that my game of serve and volley was unique in that nearly everyone else played from the base-line.My heroes in the past have always been Sampras and then Edberg, both of whom were great serve-volley players.
Well now in Spain and a few years down the line I began to watch Moya,Corretja etc- all baseline players, and then had the idea to improve my baseline game. That took me some time, and as before I was a classic continental grip player(no grip change so suited getting to the net-not rallying)I changed to a semi western grip on my forehand.
Still obviously coaching, I could try this out in the lessons, and bit by bit I became really quite good for the first time in my life on the baseline - it was like having a new toy.
Then I reached the 55 age groups and a strange thing started to happen, guys who I beat before with my serve/volley style of game, started to get closer to me and sometimes beat me.I have always been fit and something I forgot to mention was the fact I am 6ft 3inches tall - a natural at the net.
But here I was hitting groundie after groundie, and then I thought - "Hey lets go back to the old game"
Well,it was like learning to walk all over again - I had lost the feel for my volley, and my "big"first serve was not there - I had lost it all!
So back to the drawing board and after alot of practice and playing more doubles I got it back, and then went onto win the 55 event and then the recent 60's.
So you will see after watching the 2nd video you have to make up your mind on HOW your going to play - and there are many things that make up this decesion - height - speed - condition - personality etc etc etc.
So go have alook at the 2 videos and then go to the FYB site and have some fun looking around it.
