Who is Steve Tourdo?
Steve is a professonal teacher and speaker who has held world rankings in both singles and doubles. He started teaching tennis at the age of 16 when a local business owner asked his help. Since then, he has taught thousands of players and coaches his simple systems for improving tactics and stroke production. His strength is in breaking complicated concepts down into simple pieces so students can improve quickly and easily. His favorite saying: "The pros make it look easy- BECAUSE IT IS!"
His monthly tennis tip will be published on the site, and this is the tip for March Have you ever wondered why some players play the big points well and others seem to get nervous and perform poorly? The difference is in the thought process. Nature gives us adrenaline so we can rise to the occasion and perform well when it counts. To choke and perform poorly takes a very special learned recipe for disaster.

If you've never choked away a big opportunity you lack the proper recipe for failure- so here it is:

First, picture the situation going bad. Picture yourself double faulting at deuce and 4-4 in the third set, for example. Then, picture your partner getting really angry or worse yet- disappointed with you. Now think of the embarrassment you'll feel when you lose to players you know you should beat. You've done it! You're in exactly the right frame of mind to get nervous and choke.

Now picture the opposite. Everyone in the crowd is feeling the pressure of your serving at deuce and 4-4. You think to yourself: ?it would be real easy to choke here. Look- the whole crowd is feeling the pressure of this moment. Think what a hero I'll be when I ace this guy!? Like magic, you've reframed the moment so that instead of feeling fear you feel opportunity to be a hero.

Use the right thought process and you can move toward victory instead of away from defeat.

Best wishes for never-ending improvement,
Steve
