Nice video by Paul Gold, explaining exactly what is the open stance footwork move...note its the outside foot that is important here...this is the hitting stance to learn for lateral movements to wider balls...you would not use this stance around the middle of the court..here would be a neutral stance enabling you to get your weight forward in the stroke.
