I get the odd question sent to me on the site, and one of them is about the serve. When you watch the pro's serve they launch themselves up to hit the ball, and many of you out there want to know "how do you jump" for the serve.
Well the answer of course is you don't.
By using the legs correctly the pros use tremendous power to push themselves up to hit the ball, so for them its a natural movement, and being extremely fit players and well trained in the legs they can do it. But on our planet its going to be more difficult to achieve, but with the correct use of the legs, loading your weight, and then pushing up to hit the ball, you may be able to achieve a "hop" when striking the ball. I remember an article by Dave Smith, saying that all the work in the lower legs produces a 10% increase in the speed of your serve. So if Mr Roddick serves at 150mph and uses his legs correctly he can achieve an extra 15mph. If you and me are serving at 80mph, then the effort involved gives us an extra 8mph!!!!
So unless you are going to the gym and doing alot of lower body work, this might not be for you.
