Following on from the Andy M forehand, we now can see the important parts that go to make up his amazingly good backhand.
Once again taking the top row as photos 1-5 and the bottom row 6-10, we can see in 2 how as the ball approaches the weight is shifting from righto to left, and the shoulders start to turn and this initiates the first movement of the racket. In 3 the racket head is coming back with the shoulder turn and the head is taken back above the height of the incoming ball to encourage a topspin shot. In 4 the body is now sideways on to the court and the hands have dropped, and in 5 the wirsts have allowed the racket head to drop below the height of the point of contact - note how close the hands and the racket look to the body. In 7 the racket is driven out to meet the ball and in 8 the ball is on its way but the body has stayed in almost the same postion as photo 4.In 9 the racket head is starting its "windscreen wiper" movement acroos the body and in 10 the racket has once again finished the stroke and the weight has started to transfer from front foot to back foot - look at the feet. Now go out there and practice this!!!!
