The "cannot be serious" Los Gigantes Sunday tennis event is getting serious - so serious that folk are now coming to play with the logo on their tennis clothing - as above.
But once again a great Sunday(23rd October) was had by all and yet again the event was well organised by our very own Trevor Leigh, and belwo is Trevor's piece about the day.
"On the last Sunday before the clocks go back and coinciding with the school mid-term holidays we achieved a good turn-out of fifteen players who waged a tremendous battle for supremacy of the court. This mix and match doubles competition saw allcomers compete in male, female and mixed doubles combinations continually changed after short four game sets. Each player accumulating points for games won. Normally players participate in at least 24 games however on this occasion we squeezed in 32 games for each player and were rewarded with some fine tennis. Apart from a few 4-0 annihilations most games resulted in 2-2 draws or wafer thin 3-1 victories settled by sudden death points after reaching deuce. There were eight male competitors and seven female players and, in treating all simply as tennis players of varying ability, it was the women who eventually took the majority of honors.
The story of the day was the final result that saw four effective runners-up on 19 points (Helga, Wendy, Brian and Roger) and three winners on 20 points (Daniela, Shirley and Ian). Bottles of wine and tennis balls were awarded to the winners together with thier special commorative winners certificates.
