Owing to the popularity of either the tennis or the organisation by our very own Trevor Leigh, a mid week event is now on the fixture list.

Last Wednesday 12 players battled in the Tenerife mid day heat at the Los Gigantes Tennis Centre, to win one of the new certificates.Below is a report from Trevor:

Restricted to 12 players, forming six playing pairs, each doubles team played every other team within fixed time periods over a total of two hours, points being awarded for both games won and games in progress when the whistle was blown to end each period.

Although the format may be subject to further development the competition ran smoothly accommodating change-overs of courts and teams, so that all possible combinations of doubles were completed, giving each team an equal opportunity to compete.

As in most competitions, however, equal opportunity does not necessarily equate to equal capability.. In total there were fifteen matches held across all three courts with, on this occasion, our guest team player Matteo assisting his partner Jan to a relatively comfortable victory in the Challenge. The runners-up, although not too far behind, were Keith & Cameron. 

The ages of the players ranged from approx 9 to 63 and is perhaps a typical profile at this time of year. Countries represented were: England, Scotland, Germany, Italy & Belgium.
