Chip Return - Doubles PDF

Out here in Los Gigantes Tenerife, this is without one of the best shots to try when playing doubles.

Why?

Firstly, hardly anyone serves and volleys. Most players are back on their heels after serving, so by opening up the racket face a little and keeping the backswing short you can chip the ball short with a bit of angle.

Secondly, the quality of second serves is not that good.

And lastly, this is a "money" shot, as Jim M would say - "when your playing folk over 60 years of age, they just don't get this!

So next time you play doubles you can try this either:

a) off a soft serve

b) off a short ball where your opponent is back

c) after your serve creates a short hit return

Go try it out!

But one word of warning, always look to follow this shot in, just in case your opponent reaches it, then you have an easy volley of the next ball.
