Yes at the age of 27 she finally won the US Open Singles title, after beating Serena Williams in two straight sets.
I know all the press about Serena and her "rant", but this is about the winner, so I will say just one thing- you can take a kid from back streets, but you cannot take the back streets from the kid - when she is struggling she goes back to the way she knows best!
Formerly World's No 1 doubles player with Lisa Raymond she was born in Australia in 1984.She is actually from Polish descent and started playing tennis at the age of 8.
But the one thing about her, that I think not many people know is that Stosur spent 10 months off the court in 2007, struck down by what was eventually diagnosed as Lyme borreliosis, a disease transmitted by ticks that causes fever, headache, severe fatigue, depression, sleep disturbance and a skin rash.
Her father flew over straight way to the United States; she had viral meningitis as well and that's when they picked up she had Lyme disease. Blighted with the tick-borne Lyme disease and a viral infection last season, Stosur was left so weak she was admitted to hospital in Florida as a fine career unravelled. Her rehabilitation was painstakingly slow. Practice sessions were often restricted to 15 minutes.
So well done to her, and a lesson to all.
And a Brit wins at the US, when Oliver Golding from London won the Boys Singles title - we have to watch now what happens to him - good luck.
