A recent article caught my eye from the Tennis Today website - read on: Thieves steal from tennis club safe THIEVES cut a hole in the side of a tennis clubhouse causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage and made off with a large safe. Staff at Windsor Lawn Tennis Club were shocked when they arrived in the morning to find a gaping hole on the first floor of the building in Maidenhead Road. The thieves targeted the building over night on Wednesday last week, cutting a hole big enough to crawl through and remove the safe which had less than £200 inside. Manager at the tennis club Karen Xavier said: "We were shocked. It's like breaking into an old peoples home, we are a small non-profit tennis club, everything goes back into the club. And then one day to walk in to see a gaping hole on the side of our building, it is terrible. "In terms of cash they haven't got away with a lot, but the damage they have caused is much more." The hole was boarded up on Friday and permanently filled in this week. The small club with around 550 members will have to fork out more than £1,500 to replace the safe, change locks and pay for repairs. Miss Xavier said: "The members are all shocked, someone even used the work disgusting and said they couldn't believe they would do this to our club. Others said it was really sad because some of the money was members savings, which they have put together to pay for the winter term." Staff have been left frightened thieves will strike again and are looking at stepping up security with more CCTV cameras and new locks. Police are investigating the incident and anyone with information is asked to call 08458 505505. I just love the way she says "Its like breaking into an old people's home" - what would you say if the Los Gigantes Tennis centre was broken into!!!!!!!!!
